What is the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever seen? This would have to be up there. However, I’d been having some ordinary neck/shoulder pain mixed with a weird headache thing happening for almost a week. Tried to do a bunch of trigger point release to no avail. Drank a squillion litres of water, quit coffee, rested, light exercise. Not much worked to help relieve annoying pain. Until I did this stupid thing for a couple of days and had a fucken day away from work. Don’t always think you’ve “slept funny” or “did something to your back”. Could just mean it’s time to check in with your shit on a different level.

Some of you know, I’ve dealing with pretty bad neck pain for awhile now.  I’ve done months of physical therapy with little improvement unfortunately 😢 Had an MRI last week which showed some problems, as expected. One thing that often comes from spending a good portion of your day sitting at a computer is that it puts the muscles of your cervical spine in a shortened and compromised position. Continually shortening a muscle often creates increased strength in that muscle and the muscle opposing it gets weaker this muscular instability causes movement and biomechanical faults that can sometimes lead to pain. One of the muscles that gets shortened with these postures is the upper trapezius. .

When this muscle is shortened and out muscles some of the muscles opposing it we frequently see increased upward rotation and elevation of the scapula. 👉 poor shoulder mechanics 👉 shoulder pain 👉 neck pain. 
Alll things we don’t want .

One thing I use to combat this is an upper trap stretch. Bringing your ear towards your shoulder trying to avoid rotation of the neck as much as you can. For more of a stretch bringing your hand behind your back to depress the shoulder. And even more of a stretch using your opposite hand to move into further resistance. .
